    2020 - reflect

    Apparently I skipped my 2019 reflection.  Kind of sad, but that’s OK!  2020 was a year full of reflection anyway.  


    40 Questions about 2020

    1. What did you do in 2020 that you’d never done before?
    Survive a pandemic!  Graduate from grad school again.  Start a new job.

    2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
    No. Because corona lol.  I didn’t want to date anyone.

    3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
    SO many babies!  Bradley, Jordan, Lianna, Janina, Jackson, Little Dan…more are coming in 2021

    4. Did anyone close to you die?
    My grandmother.  My last living grandparent.

    5. What countries did you visit?
    NONE.  Thx corona.

    6. What would you like to have in 2020 that you lacked in 2021?
    Dating lol. And more self care.

    7. What date from 2020 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

    • Birthday trip to SF
    • Spring break - when schools had to shut down
    • the day that I found yeast to make cinnamon rolls
    • Election Day
    • The few times I got to hang out with my friends.
    • The day that we could eat together in a restaurant
    • The day we had hurricane warnings

    8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
    Graduating from Chaminade

    9. What was your biggest failure?
    Not making enough baked goods.

    10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
    The one time I got sick in February - I thought I had COVID but it wasnt.

    11. What was the best thing you bought?
    ANIMAL CROSSING!

    12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
    My own! For being resilient through the challenges.

    13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
    Some of my family, the maskholes, the GOP.

    14. Where did most of your money go?
    baking. online shopping.  supporting local businesses.

    15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
    Celebrating my birthday in CA. Graduation.  Starting a new job.  Putting myself out there in the dating pool again.  Losing nearly 20lbs!

    • Happier or sadder? Happier
    • Thinner or fatter?  Thinner.  I’m proud of how far I’ve come!
    • Richer or poorer? Poorer because student loans.  But richer in all other aspects

    18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
    Exercising.


    19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
    Nothing

    20. How did you spend Christmas?
    With my family.  Social distanced Christmas.  We went to go see the lights

    22. Did you fall in love in 2020?
    with cinnamon rolls and fresh baked bread

    None.

    24. What was your favorite TV program?
    Great British Bake Off.  Avatar the Last Airbender. The Good Place.  The Chef Show.

    25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
    Nope!

    26. What was the best book you read?
    Ali Wong’s, Trevor Noah’s, and JVN’s biographies.. 

    27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
    LANY, Surfaces, Lauv  

    28. What did you want and get?
    A counseling job!

    29. What did you want and not get?
    A boyfriend LOL.  Hopefully it’ll change in 2021.

    30. What was your favorite film of this year?
    Holy cow there aren’t any.  Going to the movies did not happen much this year.

    31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
    32.  I took the day off from work.  I did go to the movies, Jumanji was OK. Then I had lunch and dinner with my friends.  Then in a few days, I went to San Francisco.

    32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
    No coronavirus.  But now that we have the vaccine, there’s hope.

    33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2018?
    Business casual.  Lots of shorts. and comfy clothes.

    34. What kept you sane?
    My family and friends. The internet for connecting us all.

    35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
    Chris Hemsworth lol.

    36. What political issues stirred you the most?
    The election.  What a mess.  

    37. Who did you miss?
    ALL of my friends and family not in Hawaii.

    38. Who was the best new person you met?
    My new coworkers at NHIS.

    39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2020:
    Live in the moment.  Nothing is promised today.  Despite what’s happening in the world, you will be okay.

    2018 review (6 months later)

    This may be a new trend where I don’t log on to Tumblr for a long time, then I decide to log back on and now I’m here to hopefully remember what I did in 2018 so I can have it down on the internet forever.  

    40 Questions about 2018

    1. What did you do in 2018 that you’d never done before?
    I TURNED 30!!! 2018 was the start of a brand new decade! 

    2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
    I donʻt think I made goals; I just wanted to pass my classes and not be stressed.

    3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
    Davon was born!

    4. Did anyone close to you die?
    No.

    5. What countries did you visit?
    Canada.  And the mainland US.

    6. What would you like to have in 2019 that you lacked in 2018?
    Self care.  Because I’m 30 now!  This is coming from the Angel that is halfway through 2019.

    7. What date from 2018 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

    • Starting the year off on the big island - seeing the lava up close!
    • Celebrating my 30th birthday at Universal Studios with my closest friends
    • Spending lots of time with my nieces and nephew
    • Multiple trips to Seattle and California.  And Maui.
    • Starting practicum and internship

    8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
    Turning 30 and living the best life.

    9. What was your biggest failure?
    In retrospect, making the decision to do my internship at my place of work.

    10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
    I probably had a few colds here and there.

    11. What was the best thing you bought?
    Airplane tickets. Always.

    12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
    My own!  Of course.

    13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
    Some of my family, some of my former coworkers.

    14. Where did most of your money go?
    I paid off my car this year!  And airplane tickets.  Food.  Shopping.

    15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
    Turning 30!  This trip was so much fun.  I also enjoyed being able to travel and learn about my new career.

    • Thinner or fatter?  fatter.  but I need to control this.  
    • Richer or poorer? Definitely poorer but life has been abundantly full with blessings.

    18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
    Exercising.  Again, self car.

    19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
    Worrying.  Getting over anxiety/fear of social judgment is always a hard one for me.  

    20. How did you spend Christmas?
    With my family.

    More in love with myself.

    None.

    24. What was your favorite TV program?
    Great British Bake Off.  Mostly Netflix stuff like documentaries.  

    25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
    Nope!

    26. What was the best book you read?
    Little Fires Everywhere.  A Man Called Ove.  Also, Morgan Harper Nichols on instagram has been so inspirational.  

    27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
    Apple Music was a godsend (thank you student discounts).  

    28. What did you want and get?
    Self care and love for myself.  And more trips.

    29. What did you want and not get?
    A boyfriend LOL. I’m lacking in this department but I’m good for now.

    30. What was your favorite film of this year?
    Crazy Rich Asians.  Aquaman.  Ant-Man and the Wasp.  Black Panther.  Avengers Infinity War.  Solo.

    31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
    30.  The start of a brand new decade.  I was playing phase 10 at midnight.  I went to Universal Studios with my friends.  It was also the day of the false missile alert, which was crazy scary.  We had dinner at BCD, then played games at night. It was pretty awesome.  

    32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
    Honestly, nothing.  I was blessed beyond words in 2018, and it was a great year of life.  I couldnʻt have imagined it going any other way, and I wouldnʻt change it for anything.  I mean, a boyfriend would be nice BUT I donʻt need a boyfriend to be happy.  I can make myself happy LOL.  But a boyfriend…that would be nice.

    33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2018?
    Lots of dresses.  Lots and lots of dresses.  

    34. What kept you sane?
    My family and friends.  And my faith.

    35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
    Eli from Buzzfeed (LOL).

    36. What political issues stirred you the most?
    Just US politics in general.  Its a fucking mess.  

    37. Who did you miss?
    ALL of my friends and family not in Hawaii.

    38. Who was the best new person you met?
    My classmates at Chaminade.  Especially my girls!

    39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2018:
    Have the confidence you need to push yourself.   You are so loved by so many.  Don’t take yourself for granted.  Don’t sell yourself short.  You are more than enough.
